I'm incredulous that anyone can be truly surprised at the tenor of the latest McCain campaign ads.

Let me get this straight. McCain spends a week bemoaning the press coverage of Obama as unfair. The media, being the media, start to wonder whether it is true. While the media is in the middle of its collective hand-wringing, McCain releases a demonstrably false ad about Obama's non-visit to wounded veterans. The media, discussing the "hard-hitting" nature of the ad, airs it repeatedly for free for four days before actually acknowledging that it is false. Then while the media is just coming to terms with McCain's duplicity, McCain changes the subject by releasing an even more absurd, race-baiting ad. The media's response... stop talking about McCain's lies ... start showing the race-baiting ad ad naseum and discussing whether it will, indeed, destroy Obama.
I think I've seen this play before. Wake me when its over.
