A plea to get serious
MANIFESTO
Krugman echoes Reich today:[T]he Obama plan just doesn’t look adequate to the economy’s need. To be sure, a third of a loaf is better than none. But right now we seem to be facing two major economic gaps: the gap between the economy’s potential and its likely performance, and the gap between Mr. Obama’s stern economic rhetoric and his somewhat disappointing economic plan. The Nobel Prize winner gives three reasons why he believes Obama is trying to resolve a $2 trillion problem with a $775 billion solution. The most compelling to me seems "the plan's inclusion of large business tax cuts, which add to its cost but will do little for the economy, is an attempt to win Republican votes in Congress."
I'm certainly not sick of Obama, but I am getting a little impatient with the Dems' continued feeling that they have to placate the very free market morons who got the country into this mess in the first place.
UPDATE — Obama responds.
