Pierced

sporting goods

Bob Ryan sums it up:

last night we entered a hoop twilight zone in a game that featured the single most unforgivable, untimely, stupid, and flat-out selfish on-court act in the history of the Celtics.

I didn't see the game and my only comments can be pulled out of my ass but I do know that NBA officials are easily the worst officials in professional sports. I also know from a couple of stories that I read that the C's were getting absolutely hosed by calls all night.

Jeff Van Gundy was right about the officials. Commish Stern may fine VG all he wants for speaking his mind (the truth) but the Commish's biggest failing is allowing the officials to do such a horrible job night in and night out. Pierce is an idiot, sure, but frustration must pay some part when officials don't make calls all night, and you get really hacked in an INTENTIONAL FOUL at the end of the game, I can understand, if not condone/respect, such frustration.

No matter how bad the officating has been in this series (and it has been horrible and out of control), Pierce wanting to be a tough guy almost cost the Celtics their season.

It really was unbelievable when it happened, I really couldn't believe it. He got hit in the face, but he got hit about as hard as Gary Sheffield did by the Fenway fan.

It is unbelievable. I thought Pierce was better than this. But I still need to lay some blame at the foot of the NBA. A league that all to often lets stuff like this simmer throughout a series and a rivalry (see Pistons-Pacers) and then act indignant when a player crosses the line. Either the NBA needs to enforce the rules or accept a dirty-gritty style of play. This half-assed flip a coin to determine if an official is going to call a foul garbage makes the game hard to watch.

Every NBA games seems to be like Duke-UConn Final Four in 2004, just horribly officiated.
