and to think this guy was my favorite player growing up...

kids can be so naive. Me with Barry Bonds, and I had a friend who's favorite player was Doc Gooden...

According to the story, Bonds didn't start cheating until 1998. Why did he start cheating? Because Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa wowed baseball with their chase of Maris and everybody knew they were cheating.

Just goes to show why steroids need to be addressed. Once one player finds and advantage, others will begin to take it so that they don't get left behind. The proverbial race to the bottom.

Giants fans will still applaud as if nothing happened. The people that defended him before today will continue with their heads buried in the sand.

O is dead right. It'll be like that great scene from Casablanca:

Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.

You're going to be hearing a lot of this sort of thing re: Barry Bonds right up until he weasles his way into the Hall of Fame.

Bonds was a hall of famer, and one of the highest paid players in the game, prior to 1998.

What a dumbass. And a selfish jerk.

Does anybody else remember the Bonds comments in 1998 and 1999 in response to questions about how he was doing it (being so successful late in his career) and his response was, "I figured something out, but I'll tell you when I retire?"

I clearly remember that, but I could be imagining thing.

Obviously we know the secret.
